Selectivity was the focus within this project, as the inclusion and exclusion of information occurs through the process of creating maps. Denis Wood commented in ‘The Power of Maps’ ‘The maps’ effectiveness is a consequence of selectivity[1]’. This led me to consider how maps do not incorporate every factor of the land, meaning we are receiving a limited impression. As a result my work attempts to draw on how maps are created selectively, in order to create an abstracted view of my chosen area. By excluding factors through selectivity, my work enhances the distortion between the actual (The environment we walk amongst)
and the replication of the actual (The map).
